Statement

I am pleased to stand for election as Secretary of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES). I offer my candidacy with a strong commitment to service, collaboration, and the effective functioning of the Society’s governance processes.

I have been an active member of CIES for many years and have had the opportunity to serve the Society in several capacities. My service includes roles as Co-Conference Coordinator for the Gender and Education Standing Committee and the Youth Development and Education SIG, Interim Co-Chair of the YDE SIG, and a member for the SAIS Awards Committee. Through these roles, I have supported proposal review processes, coordinated communications with members, organized meetings, and assisted with elections and awards. These experiences have given me a practical understanding of CIES governance structures and the importance of accurate documentation and timely communication.

Professionally, I bring extensive experience in administrative and governance-related work. Before entering academia, I worked for over ten years in provincial government agencies, where I was responsible for preparing meeting minutes, managing official records, drafting reports, and supporting executive decision-making. This work required precision, confidentiality, and consistency that align closely with the responsibilities of the Secretary role.

If elected, I would approach the position of Secretary with care and diligence. I am committed to taking and circulating accurate meeting minutes, maintaining Society records, and supporting clear communication with the membership regarding elections, constitutional updates, and official statements. I value the collaborative systems already in place, including recorded meetings and administrative support, and I see the Secretary’s role as one of coordination and stewardship rather than individual authority.

CIES has been an important intellectual and professional community for me. Serving as Secretary would be a new and valuable experience that allows me to contribute to the Society’s continuity, transparency, and institutional memory, supporting the work of the Board, Executive Board, and members. I would be honored to serve CIES in this capacity.
