What is Perspectives?

Perspectives is the member-driven newsletter of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), covering events, Special Interest Group and Standing Committee updates, conference information, member achievements, and contributions from across our international community. Perspectives relies on your submissions to make it as informative and insightful as possible!

We invite contributions from researchers, educators, practitioners, policymakers, graduate students, and community partners from around the world. We welcome submissions that foster thoughtful dialogue, showcase innovative work, and strengthen connections across the diverse CIES community.

General Guidelines

• Write for a broad interdisciplinary and international audience.
• Use clear, accessible language.
• Contributions should be original and not previously published.
• Hyperlinks are encouraged in place of lengthy references, where appropriate.
• The editorial team may edit submissions for clarity, style, length, and consistency.
• All contributions should align with the CIES Newsletter Editorial Standards.

What We’re Looking For

News and Views | 800–1,000 words
Timely commentary or opinions on issues affecting comparative and international education. Share evidence-informed perspectives, reflections on emerging trends, policy developments, or current events relevant to the field.

Notes from the Field | 800–1,000 words
Perspectives from practitioners working in schools, NGOs, ministries of education, international organizations, and other contexts. Explore lessons learned, program innovations, and the intersection of research and practice.

Teaching and Learning Exchange | 800–1,000 words
Share innovative teaching practices, classroom activities, simulations, assessment strategies, applications, course design ideas, or reflections on teaching comparative and international education in today’s classrooms.

Featured Conversation | 1,000–1,500 words
Interviews, dialogues, or roundtable discussions with scholars, practitioners, policymakers, or educators whose work is shaping the field. Explore emerging issues, innovative research, policy developments, or pressing global concerns.

Member Spotlight | 500–800 words
Profiles of CIES members that highlight career pathways, current work, leadership, or contributions to the field. Nominations, including self-nominations, are welcome.

Graduate Student and Emerging Scholar Corner | 500–800 words
Reflections from graduate students and early-career scholars on research, fieldwork, publishing, professional development, innovative methods, or career pathways.

Books, Articles, and Media | 150–300 words per item
Recommendations or recent books (including your own!), articles, podcasts, documentaries, or other media relevant to the field. Briefly describe the work and explain its significance.

Community Announcements | 50–150 words per item
Announcements of member achievements, awards, grants, Calls for Proposals, job postings, funding opportunities, upcoming conferences, webinars, and other items of interest to the CIES community.
