Secretary Candidate

Statement
I am honored to stand as a candidate for Secretary of the Comparative and International Education Society. Having been a member of CIES since 2014, I have experienced the Society as a vital professional and intellectual home—one that fosters rigorous scholarship, meaningful dialogue across contexts, and a strong commitment to equity and global engagement. Serving as Secretary would be an opportunity to give back to a community that has shaped my career in profound ways.
My commitment to CIES is grounded in sustained participation and service. Over the past decade, I have regularly presented at and contributed to the annual conference, and from 2022 to 2024 I served as Co-Chair of the Education in Conflict and Emergencies (EiCE) Special Interest Group. In that role, I worked closely with fellow SIG leaders to coordinate conference sessions, manage communications with members, and ensure timely, organized, and inclusive processes. This experience strengthened my appreciation for the behind-the-scenes governance work that enables CIES to function effectively and transparently.
The responsibilities of the Secretary role align closely with my skills and professional experience. As a researcher and educator, I am accustomed to careful documentation, clear written communication, and meeting deadlines. I have extensive experience taking detailed meeting notes, managing records, and synthesizing complex discussions into accurate and accessible summaries—skills essential for maintaining Society records and circulating Board and Executive Board minutes. I also value collaboration and would work closely with the Office of the Executive Director to safeguard institutional memory and ensure continuity.
Thank you for considering my candidacy. I would be grateful for the opportunity to serve CIES in this capacity.
