The Middle East Special Interest Group (MESIG) of the Comparative and International Education Society exists under the auspice of CIES.  MESIG is not associated with any political or religious affiliation.  The geographic range includes not only the greater Middle East, but also those countries with significant ties to the Middle East (North Africa).  Topical interests vary across the board.

Membership is open to all registered CIES members (see MEMBERSHIP).

The Purpose of the MESIG

 

Networking researchers (students and faculty) in sharing research and collaborating on academic projects
 

Facilitating forums and panel discussions about issues pertaining to education in the Middle East
 

Publishing conference proceedings, as well as hosting theses, dissertations, working papers, college level syllabi, and resources relevant to education in the Middle East

 

History

 

The Middle East Special Interest Group was founded in 2007 through the initiative of several founding members with the support of Gita Steiner-Khamsi, with the founding officers being Sina Mossayeb, Reza Arjmand, and Maryam Soltanzadeh.

 

Today there are close to 40 official and unofficial members of the MESIG.
